Dr. Elijah Bortniker, educational consultant for the Jewish Education Committee of New York, has been named overseas educational director of the Joint Distribution Committee, it was announced today by Moses A. Leavitt, JDC executive vice-chairman. Dr. Bortniker will depart immediately to assume his new post in Paris at JDC’s overseas headquarters.
In his new post, Dr. Bortniker will supervise JDC assistance to secular and religious schools in six countries of Western Europe. Funds for this program, as well as other aspects of JDC’s overseas relief, rescue and reconstruction activities, are provided by the United Jewish Appeal. Dr. Bortniker has served as educational consultant for the Jewish Education Committee since his discharge from the U. S. Army in 1945.
