The Joint Distribution Committee is providing care for more than 200 Jewish men, women and children who have reached Austria as refugees from Hungary, JDC director general Charles Jordan, declared today upon his return from Vienna where he had surveyed the refugee situation in his capacity as president of the Standing Conference of Voluntary Agencies in the field of refugee relief.

Reporting that he had seen women still wearing their kitchen aprons and men who had not stopped to put on their coats before quitting their work benches, Mr. Jordan said that the facilities and manpower of Austria were insufficient to cope with the huge refugee problem. He indicated that while the JDC had a primary responsibility to the Jewish refugees it would cooperate in any general voluntary agency program to assist all fleeing Hungarians.
