J.D.C. Representatives Reach Lisbon En Route to Organize Relief in North Africa

The Joint Distribution Committee today announced the arrival in Lisbon of Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz and Kurt Peiser who sailed several weeks ago to organize relief for Jews in North Africa. Both men will proceed at once to Algiers and Tunis, the announcement said.

Their immediate task will be to make a comprehensive study of the needs of both refugee and native Jewish populations in North Africa, Joseph C. Hyman, executive vice-president of the JDC stated. He disclosed that the JDC has received appeals for emergency relief from the Jews in Tripoli and Tunisia.
