The first in a series of shipments of more than 2,500,000 pounds of matzos and other Passover supplies for 1,400,000 Jewish survivors in Europe from the Jews of America is enroute overseas, according to an announcement from the national headquarters of the United Jewish Appeal.
A special Passover program has been launched by the Joint Distribution Committee to provide for the holiday needs of the remnants of the Jewish people in Europe in their observance of the first “liberated” Passover since the outbreak of World War II.
Rabbi Leo Jung, chairman of the J.D.C. Committee on Cultural-Religious Activities, has disclosed that the J.D.C. will ship approximately 1,250,000 pounds of matzos, matzo meal, raisins and macaroons from the United States. An additional 1,250,000 pounds of Passover supplies will be purchased overseas for Jews in Belgium, Rumania, Turkey, France and Bulgaria.
