James D. Zellerbach, prominent industrialist and Jewish communal leader, and former United States Ambassador to Italy, died here yesterday at the age of 71. He was chairman of the board of the Crown Zellerbach Corporation, one of the nation’s largest paper companies.
A native of San Francisco, Mr, Zellerbach was a former president of this city’s Jewish Welfare Fund; national vice-chairman of the National Conference of Christians and Jews; vice-president of the National Jewish Hospital in Denver; and a director of Mount Zion Hospital here.
