Three days of festivities by the Jewish National Fund of America which marked the dedication of the new five-story JNF House, acquired and remodeled at a cost of $300,000, ended here today. Albert Schiff, chairman of the dedication committee, announced that the JNF, in the course of its existence, has raised $200 million in the United States for land redemption and development in Israel.
Dr. Harris J. Levine, president of the JNF of America, revealed that more than 500,000 individual donors in the United States have contributed from a dime to $50,000 to the Jewish National Fund this year. Dr. Levine stated that the JNF House will also serve as a cultural center for Jewish Youth, for affiliated Zionist organizations and for Jewish national groups.
Dr. Israel Goldstein, honorary president of the JNF and president of the American Jewish Congress, delivered the dedication address. The Zionist leader declared that “the people of Israel, with the help of the JNF, are making one reclaimed acre of land do the work of ten barren acres.” He stated “the people of Israel want only to be left in peace, free to pursue their efforts to transform barren wastes into productive farms.” He lauded the land reclamation program of the JNF and called the organization “a tangible and sentimental link between every Jew and Israel.”
Mendel N. Fisher, JNF executive director, urged immediate consideration of “the broad-gauged program of the JNF which has been brought to us from Jerusalem by Dr. Abraham Granott, world chairman of the JNF, and which is aimed at the strengthening of Israel’s security as well as its agricultural expansion.”
