A gift of $60,000 by Harry Lourie, South African Jewish leader who is prominent in Zionist circles, has been announced here by the Jewish National Fund.
The gift includes 411 acres of land in the Beer Sheba district of Palestine, valued at about $4,000, and the sum of $56,000 in cash. The entire Lourie family is active in Zionist affairs and one of Mr. Lourie’s sons, Arthur, is political secretary of the American Zionist Emergency Council.
Dr. Abraham Granovsky, managing director of the Jewish National Fund, today flew to South Africa where he will lead the local J.N.F. campaign. He will also be one of the featured speakers at the 21st South African Zionist Conference.
