The National Jewish Welfare Board today concluded its biennial convention here with the adoption of a resolution empowering the 353 Jewish Community Centers affiliated with the JWB to carry forward programs to assist the implementation of the integration decision of the U.S. Supreme Court. Lloyd W. Dinkelspiel, well known San Francisco Jewish leader, was elected president of the organization.
The convention voted support of national program against juvenile delinquency and urged cooperation of affiliated Jewish community centers. The delegates also urged Congress to exempt YMHA’s and Jewish centers from the payment of excise taxes and voted support of a pending house bill that would enable centers to have access to certain types of Federal surplus property being disposed of by the government.
The convention also resolved to greet Israel on its tenth anniversary and lauded the program of the Jerusalem YMHA and other JWB projects in Israel. The 1958 Frank L. Weil Awards of JWB were presented to Dr. Horace M. Kallen, Professor Emeritus of the New School for Social Research, Captain Joshua Goldberg, Naval chaplain, and Mrs. Irving M. Sands, member of the New York City Board of Education.
