A warning against exaggerated pessimism in viewing the present situation of Zionism was expressed by Vladimir Jabotinsky, leader of the Zionist Revisionists, at a banquet given here today in his honor.
Jabotinsky declared that a description of the present situation as catastrophical was unsuitable, as he was convinced that a new interpretation of Jewish rights in Palestine was about to follow the White Paper.
“The British policy is flexible, treating political declarations lightly,” he said. “The new White Paper is a mad step, therefore it is bound to be retracted since the British people are not a mad people,” he said. He warned the Zionists against the danger of another catastrophe if they would be satisfied with their rights in case the British government retreats only as far as maintaining a status quo. “Only the British Government’s recognition of Revisionist terms would prevent a weak Zionist situation,” he said.
