Former Secretary of Labor James P. Mitchell has been named national chairman of Brotherhood Week to be observed next February 17-24 under the auspices of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, it was announced today by Dr. Lewis Webster Jones, president of the organization. As national chairman, he will lead the nation in organizing the 30th anniversary of Brotherhood Week and will serve beside President Kennedy who is honorary chairman.
In a statement accepting the chairmanship, Mr. Mitchell called for a rededication to the practice of brotherhood and for the elimination of prejudice. “In doing so,” he said, “we will not only strengthen our democratic nation, but we will also emancipate our individual conscience.”
