An investigation into the activities of Professor Alexander Cuza, leader of the Roumanian anti-Semitic party who has just been elected to Parliament, has been started by the police prefect of Jassy because Professor Cuza told the prefect that he (the prefect) was “also Jewified” when the prefect refused to accepts the professor’s complaint in which he charged that the Jews of Targufromos had attacked him.
While Cuza and some of his followers were returning from his successful election campaign they passed through Targufromos. A clash with the Jewish population ensued in which a number of injuries were suffered on both sides. The Cuzists have lodged a complaint against the Jews.
While Rador, the Roumanian news agency, learns that the Cuzists are preparing anti-Semitic manifestations, officials in Bucharest are giving assurances that the authorities have taken the fullest measures to ensure the safety of the Jews. The government has instructed the authorities in Old Roumania to keep a careful watch on the movement of the Cuzists and to avoid clashes. In the meantime a commission has gone to Targufromos to determine who is guilty in the clash since there were a number of injuries on both sides. All Jewish shops have closed in the towns where the Cuzists are celebrating their election victory.
