Jazz and its Jewish authors were criticized as untrue to the serious traditions of Jewish music by Rabbi Henry Barnston of Houston, before the annual convention of Texas rabbis, which closed a two-day session today in Fort Worth.
Rabbi Barnston said that real Jewish music is part of the Jew’s nature and an expression of his religious enthusiasm, not an entertainment.
Rabbi Samuel Rosinger of Beaumont was re-elected president of the Kallah. Other officers re-elected were Rabbi Harry Merfeld of Fort Worth, Rabbi Maurice Faber of Tyler, vice-presidents, and Rabbi Charles Blumenthal of Waco, secretary.
