Unification of the vocational training programs of the Joint Distribution Committee and the World ORT Union was made known today in a joint announcement by Edward M.M. Warburg, chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, and George Backer, president of the World ORT Union and American ORT Federation.
The vocational training programs of the two agencies, which are in operation in almost all countries of Europe, with special emphasis on the requirements of displaced Jews in Germany and Austria, will be administered by ORT and financed by the JDC with funds raised through the United Jewish Appeal campaign. Under the terms of the agreement the ORT will receive an initial grant of $2,000,000 from the JDC this year and refrain from fund-raising activities in the United States during the year 1947. However, the World ORT Union will be able to continue its fund-raising activities outside the United States.
