Seven Jerusalem Yeshiva students were held for questioning today on charges that they, with 50 others, went on an anti-missionary rampage and smashed windows in the Finnish missionary school and the Zion Christian Mission.
Dr. Zorach Warhaftig, Minister for Religious Affairs, said when asked for his reaction that “violence is not the proper way to combat missionary activities, ” He said that while it was “well-known” that the Israel public did not look with favor on missionary activities of the kind that took advantage of poverty in slum areas, “the struggle against such activity cannot take the form of violence. “
