Jew Appointed to Roosevelt’s Under-cabinet

Positive news of the appointment of A. J. Altmeyer as Assistant Secretary of Labor in President Roosevelt’s under-cabinet was received here today, confirming early reports and rumors.

Altmeyer, who still holds his original position was secretary of the Wisconsin State Industrial Commission, will resign his post here if his cabinet, appointment is confirmed by the United States Senate, he declared today.

Altmeyer’s appointment to the Labor Department post culminates a swift sweep upward from the ranks of New Deal administrators. A short time ago the new Assistant Secretary of Labor had occupied a post of very minor importance in NRA officialdom. Altmeyer is usually considered as belonging to the LaFollette Progressive faction in state politics here.
