Joseph Salmona, secretary general of the Lay Council of the Turkish Grand Rabbinate, has been elected a member of the Istanbul City Council, it was announced today when the official count of the municipal election was concluded. Mr. Salmona is the only Jew on the Council. There are some 46,000 Jews among Istanbul’s 1,600,000 inhabitants.
