A week ago the City Commission formally adopted an ordinance changing- the name of Waverly avenue to Fuld avenue, as a way of honoring the memory of the late merchant and philanthropist, Felix Fuld. Now a group of residents of Waverly avenue are protesting the change.

Those voicing the objection live in Waverly avenue between Belmont and Springfield avenues. They declare they would not object if the change affected Waverly avenue only below Belmont avenue. (This happens to be chiefly colored).

Asserting the change of name would affect many of them “very deeply,” some of those in opposition maintain the street in one of the oldest landmarks in the city. They maintain the change might affect the Waverly avenue school and also Trinity Lutheran Church located in the area in question.
