A Jewish medical orderly was killed and several officials injured today at the Jerusalem Central Prison during the second day of clashes between Jewish and Arab inmates over a threatened sit-down strike by the former to protest the authorities refusal to commute the death sentence imposed on Dov Gruner.
The riots first broks out yesterday, but were quelled by police using clubs and tear gas. They were resumed this morning, resulting in fatal injuries to Abraham Shvili. Police reinforcements were brought into the prison to stop the outbreak. At least 25 prisoners and eight policemen were injured, in addition to the superintendent of the prison.
