Jacob Suritz, a Jew, has been named Soviet ambassador to Germany, it was officially announced yesterday.
Suritz has been serving as Soviet ambassador to Turkey for the past eleven years.
The announcement has aroused wide interest here, since his appointment is provoking general curiosity concerning the manner in which the Nazi government will maintain diplomatic courtesies and immunities when the diplomat chances to be a Jew.
There is as yet no indication here that Berlin has approved the appointment.
