Jew Shot Without Trial by Ogpu in White Russia

The Ogpu in the town of Lukamne in the province of Mohilev arrested a prominent Jewish resident named Feigin, states a report received here, and had him shot without trial. Feigin was one of the most respected citizens of the town. No reason is known for the action of the Ogpu.

CONGRESSMAN CELLER AND JUDGE SABATH SAIL FOR EUROPEAN TRIP

Congressman Emanuel Celler sailed on Saturday for Europe on the Leviathan. While in Europe, he will atted the Interparliamentary Union Conference as a delegate of the United States Congress. The Conference is to be held in Paris, from August 25 to 31.

Congressman Celler will also attend the Conference of Jewish Rights, which is to be held in Zurich on August 17.

Chief Justice Joseph Sabath of the Chicago Superior Court sailed on the same steamer. Judge Sabath will study continental divorce courts while on his tour in Europe.

BLOCH HEADS CAMPAIGN OF B’NAI B’RITH IN EAST

Assemblyman Maurice Bloch, president of District No. 1, Independent Order B’nai B’rith, announced at a dinner of the General Committee of the District at the Hotel Prisament, that Maurice P. Davidson, former president of the District, had accepted the chairmanship of a committee to raise $750,000 which is the district’s quota of the $2,000,000 fund of the B’nai B’rith Wider Scope Committee.

Associated with Mr. Davidson in the direction of the campaign, which will be launched shortly, are Charles Hartman, Bronx County Judge Albert Cohn, Former Deputy Attorney General Leonard J. Obermayer, Louis Fabricant, Joseph Rosenzweig, Ely Rosenberg, Lazarus E. Schlechter, Louis Osterweis, and Clarence S. Bachrach.

The Jewish Welfare Board is cooperating with the War Department in planning religious and welfare activities for the men who will attend the Citizen’s Military Training Camps, and a number of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps encampments and the the National Guard encampments, during the summer.

The following rabbis holding chaplaincies in the Officers’ Reserve Corps have been assigned to active duty in the encampments indicated: Frank L. Rosenthal, at Camp Mc-Clellan, Ala.; Benjamin A. Tintner and Julius Silberfeld, at Plattsburg, N. Y,; and Salvador J. Schwab, at Fort Bragg, N.C. Rabbis Montague N. A. Cohen, Martin Zielonka, and Herman Lissauer, who hold chaplaincies in the Officers’ Reserve Corps, are among those representing the Jewish Welfare Board at training camps.

New camps have been opened by sections of the National Council of Jewish Women this summer. The Boston Camp for Business Women, at Lanesville, Mass.; Surrey Cottage for Business Girls, established by the Toronto, Canada section at Bronte; the Providence, R. I. Camp, near East Greenwich, overlooking Narragansett Bay; the Ella V. Fohs camp of the New York City section; and the Sophie Wirth Camp of St. Paul, are among the new camps.

In addition to these camps, the following have launched their activities for the season: The Y. W. H. A. Camp for Girls, of Detroit: the Bertha G. Krohngold Vacation Home of Utica, N. Y.; the Chicago Camp at Wauconda, Ill., and the Vacation Home of Rochester, N. Y section.
