Protesting its innocence of charges of being subsidized by the Nazis appearing in the New York Times last Tuesday, the Deutsche Zeitung, mouthpiece of Hitlerite groups in the United States, in its March 17 edition belabors the American press as a carrier of lies regarding Hitler’s activities in office. In effect, the article proclaims the entire American press out of step with one exception–the Deutsche Zeitung.

A. wireless dispatch to the New York Times from Berlin reported that German government subsidies to the Deutsche Zeitung and its English-language supplement, The German Outlook, would be discontinued. The following day the New York Times published an interview with the editors of the papers in which they disclaimed ever having received subsidies from the German government.

The German Outlook says in part:

“The editors of this paper wish to state here and now that they are not going to be intimidated by any libelous articles regardless of the paper in which they are published and will continue to set the record straight concerning the New Germany.”

The March 17 edition of the Deutsche Zeitung and its English supplement devotes pages to ridiculing and attacking prominent. Americans taking part in “The Case of Civilization Against Hitlerism” at Madison Square Garden. Virtually every speaker is branded as an inveterate hater of the German nation.
