The Jewish Agency will take whatever steps are necessary to wage a “political struggle” before the United Nations in connection with the British decision to bring the Palestine issue to the U.N., it was announced at a press conference here today by an Agency spokesman.

“We have always considered our problem to be international,” he said. “The handing over of the issue to the United Nations is, therefore, acceptable to us.” He regretted, however, that “this means further delay.”

The Jewish Agency, he declared, will demand abrogation of the White Paper in the interim period before the Palestine question is taken up by the U.N. “Continustion of the White Paper will only increase the bitterness at present prevailing in the country,” he warned.

(In London, Moshe Shertok, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency, today stated that Jews will now have to plead their case in every capital of the United Nations and will strongly defend it before the U.N. General Assembly. He asked: “Will the mandatory government lay their trust before the United Nations pure and untarnished exactly as they received it from its predecessors, the League of Nations, or will they bring it distorted, as it now is, beyond recognition by the violations committed in the White Paper? Will the ban on immigration, save for a trickle of 1,500 a month, be maintained?” Referral of the problem to the United Nations, he said, appears to be a new time-gaining device.)

Maj. Gen. Gordon H.A. MacMillan, new British commander in Palestine, saw Dr. Chaim Weizmann today at the latter’s home in Rehovoth. His visit was described as a “courtesy call.”
