Memorial addresses in honour of the late Louis Marshall, the first Chairman of the Jewish Agency Council, and Lord Melchett, who was elected at the first session of the Jewish Agency held in Zurich in August 1929 as Joint Chairman, and on Mr. Louis Marshall’s death succeeded him as Chairman, will be delivered at the inaugural meeting of the second ordinary session of the Council of the Jewish Agency which is opening at Basle on Tuesday evening, July 14th., according to the agenda which was issued here to-day by the Jewish Agency office. The memorial addresses will be preceded only by the opening address of the present Chairman of the Council, Dr. Cyrus Adler, who will speak on the “General Problems of the Jewish Agency since the first meeting of the Council”, and after the various speeches of welcome will be followed by the address of the President of the Jewish Agency Dr. Ch. Weizmann, on the “Political Developments affecting the Jewish National Home during the last two years”.
At the second session, on Wednesday morning, Dr. Arthur Ruppin, member of the Executive, will report on “The Practical work in Palestine done by the Jewish Agency in the years 1929-1931”; followed by the report of the Chairman of the Administrative Committee, Mr. Felix M. Warburg, and the address of Director Osear Wassermann, Chairman of the Standing sub-Committee on Finance and Budget on “The financial aspects and problems of the Jewish Agency”.
The Wednesday afternoon session is devoted to the debate on the reports, and the election of the Political, Budget, Organisation and Nomination Committees. The debate will be continued on Thursday morning, and Thursday afternoon and evening will be reserved for meetings of the Committees. The voting on resolutions and the elections will take place on Friday morning, after which the session will be closed.
