Measures for the promotion of immigration to Israel from Argentina and Algeria were discussed at a meeting of the Jewish Agency executive here yesterday.
The executive previously had named four members to a joint Government-Jewish Agency committee on Latin-American immigration. The Government was expected to name its four members at the regular Cabinet meeting Sunday. A senior representative of the Agency will leave soon for Argentina to supervise aliya activities, it was stated.
Problems involved in immigration of Algerian Jews, now scattered among 200 different areas, were discussed and a special committee was set up to deal with those problems. Moshe Sharett, chairman of the executive, heads the special committee, which is acting on an executive resolution that the situation of the Algerian Jews requires a special effort.
The meeting heard a report by Gottleib Hammer, vice-chairman of the Jewish Agency Inc. in New York, that there was no possibility of giving American Jewry a full picture of immigration.
