Emergency measures designed to aid Israel in coping with increased immigration pressure, particularly from Eastern Europe, through increasing the income from the United Israel Appeal movement all over the world, were discussed here today by the Jewish Agency executive.
Among the suggestions put forth was one that Premier David Ben Gurion and Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Zionist Organization, convene jointly in Israel an emergency meeting of United Israel Appeal leaders from all countries except the United States. The purpose of the extraordinary session would be to brief world Jewish leaders on the nature of the immigration crisis.
It was further recommended that increased immigration be made the central theme of all Israel fund-raising efforts abroad and all discussions with Jewish leaders visiting Israel. A special fund-raising effort in Israel itself was projected, as was the calling of series of meetings of European and Latin American Jewish appeal leaders in January and the dispatch of a special delegation of experts on immigration to the forthcoming UJA meeting in the U.S. this December.
