Three Jewish Agency funds for the employment of new immigrants have given out some $5 million in loans and grants in the first eight months of this year. One Agency fund of $25 million gave some $1.5 million in loans for 59 projects, which are to employ 118 immigrants. This fund approves loans directly to immigrants, to assist them in opening their own businesses or it provides cash to projects which employ immigrants, especially with academic degrees.
The so-called resources fund of $75 million approved this year some $2.2 million for 10 projects, which are to employ some 135 immigrants. This fund lends money to Israeli plants which employ immigrants, especially with academic degrees. The fund for the absorption of scientists in scientific projects, of $10 million, has arranged openings for 150 scientists in the universities, government research institutions, public corporations, banks and other companies.
