The Jewish Agency Executive cabled to-day to Mr. Emanuel Neuman, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learns, congratulating him on his achievement in forming the American Palestine Committee, the inauguration of which took place at the end of last week in Washington (reported in the J.T.A. Bulletin of the 20th. inst.). The Jewish Agency Executive in its cable to Mr. Neuman asked him to convey to the American Pro-Palestine Committee its grateful acknowkedgment for the helpful support the Committee intends to give to the Zionist cause.
The formation of the Pro-Palestine Committee in America has aroused the keenest interest in Zionist quarters, the “Manchester Guardian” writes in an editorial to-day, pointing out that President Hoover with his message of sympathy has, like his predecessors, revealed great interest in the Jewish efforts in Palestine. The “Manchester Guardian” recalls that the Balfour Declaration was issued after full consultation with, and approval of President Wilson. Though America was not a party to the grant of the mandate the United States was intimately associated with the policy. In 1922 the Congress of the United States passed a joint resolution of the Senate and the house of Representatives in favour of the establishment of the Jewish National Home in Palestine. Three years late America’s association with the policy of the mandate was sealed by a convention with Great Britain. Senator Borah, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, is an active member of the newly formed Pro-Palestine Committee. Similar committees for the same purpose exist in many other countries, including France, Germany, Austria and Bulgaria.
