Plans of the Jewish Agency during the past three years have been carried out from 90 to 100 percent despite enormous difficulties, Dr. Dov Joseph, Jewish Agency treasurer, reported today at a plenum of the Agency executive. He stressed the urgent need to consolidate the Agency’s short term indebtedness into long term loans to establish a sounder financial position for the Agency’s program.
Speaking with pride of the Agency’s achievements in turning many thousands of new immigrants into farmers, he said many grave problems remained to be solved, particularly in the field of housing. He said millions of pounds were needed to renovate and expand existing housing in agricultural settlements as well as in other immigrant housing. The Agency is negotiating with the Israel Finance Ministry on means of solving the most urgent of these problems. Dr. Joseph reported.
Dr. Nahum Goldmann reported on the recent Joint session with members of the Israel Cabinet on cooperation between the Government and the Agency. He expressed satisfaction with the joint communique emerging from the meeting which stated the Government’s support for expansion of the World Zionist Organization.
He reported also on a meeting of a Cabinet-Agency subcommittee named to formulate practical steps to strengthen the Zionist movement abroad and to strengthen cooperation between the movement and the Israel Government. He added that proposals of the subcommittee would be submitted to Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion for final approval at the earliest possible time.
