The crisis in immigration is the gravest danger threatening Israel today, “much graver” even than the political and economic difficulties of the State, Eliahu Dobkin, member of the Jewish Agency executive, declared here last night at the closing session of the 53rd annual conference of the British Zionist Federation.
Mr. Dobkin stressed that the further consolidation of Israel, in fact its very existence, “depends on the renewal of immigration.” He advocated offering Jewish youth the “positive” aspects of life in Israel as an inducement to immigration, rather than the “catastrophic” doctrine that if they remain outside Israel their lot is anti-Semitism. “We have to bring to the minds of Jews the fact that contemporary Israel should be seen only as a society in the making, as an embryo with potentialities towards an envisaged ideal,” he said.
