Jewish Agency officials were seeking through all possible channels today to arrange transportation home for the Palestinian and Polish delegates to the recent World Zionist Congress in Geneva, stranded by the interruption in communications.
The Agency hoped to be able to place 20 or 30 Palestinians on each neutral liner proceeding through the Mediterranean from Marseilles. David Ben Gurion, chairman of the Jewish Agency’s Palestine Executive, was aboard the liner City of Cairo, en route to Palestine from Marseilles.
Many of the Polish Zionists who tried to return to Warsaw through Italy were turned back at the Italian frontier and came to Paris and London, seeking a route through the Scandinavian countries. The almost total disruption of regular passenger services delayed their departure.
