The Jewish Agency today announced that it has effected an agreement with the Red Cross in Turkey for the delivery to Jews in Transnistria, the Rumanian-occupied part of Russia of fifty thousand packages of food and clothing for the 50,000 Jews who are believed to be all that survived of the 185,000 Jews deported to Transnistria from various parts of Rumania.
It was also reported here today that full agreement has also been reached between the Jewish Agency and the Joint Distribution Committee with regard to sending parcels of food and clothing to Jewish refugees now on Russian soil.
The committee recently established here to organize Jewish relief units to follow the Allied armies into liberated territories, held its first meeting today and appointed Dr. Abraham Katznelson, member of the presidium of the Jewish National Council, as its president. The committee issued a call to the Jewish youth in Palestine to volunteer for service with the units.
