Jewish Agency Withdraws Consular Immunity for Vehicles; Crisis in Jewish Cabinet

The Jewish Agency today withdrew consular immunity against search from all vehicles owned by foreign consulates in Jerusalem. The ###ep was taken following yesterday’s bombing of the Agency headquarters by an Arab ### succeeded in getting into the Agency premises with explosives only because his ###r flew the American flag and was recognized as the automobile of the U.S. Consul ##neral.A spokesman for the Agency today said that the Agency attaches no responsibility to the American consulate for the bombing of its headquarters in which 13 persons lost their lives and 90 were injured. The consulate was evacuated this morning for about an hour when an anonymous telephone caller warned that the building was about to be bombed. The warning proved to be a false alarm.

From Tel Aviv it was reported that the newly-created Jewish Government is ##cing new crisis following ratification of a defense agreement between the Haganah ###d the Irgun last night. The United Labor Party, formed by the merger of the left-##t Hashomer Hatzair and L’Achduth Avoda has decided to withdraw from the Provisional Government Council and the Cabinet because it is not satisfied with the representation given it and the ratification of the defense pact. David Ben Gurion and ?nance Minister-designate Eliezer Kaplan voted against the pact, it was learned.

Although the agreement has been ratified in fact, it will not be officially announced until all members of the Agency executive living abroad have registered their opinions. They have been cabled the conditions of the Haganah-Irgun alliance.

Five Jews were killed and three wounded today in a series of Arab attacks ### Jewish convoys in various parts of the country. One, a woman, died in a running ?attle near Motza, two were killed near Samakh and two died en route from the Dead ##ea area to Jerusalem. Also, one Jew was killed and one injured when the men, on a Haganah patrol, encountered a large band of Arabs near Sodom and exchanged shots with them.

The 13 victims of the Jewish Agency bombing were buried today in the new area of the ancient Cemetery of the Sanhedrin, in Jerusalem. The bodies, draped ## simple prayer shawls, were transported in four undecorated trucks. Leading the burners were the families of the identified victims, officials of the Agency, the ## Chief Rabbis and members of the Jewish National Council. A large crowd of Jews ##f all ages followed the cortege. Three of the dead have not yet been identified.
