The charge that the United States has “lost sight of” its democratic aims in Germany was made today by the 17-member Coordinating Council on German Democracy which includes six national Jewish organizations.

In a report on the German problem, the Council emphasized that extreme nationalist political groups are re-emerging in Germany and many former active Nazis are returning to important administrative and economic positions. It insisted that all active Nazis should be eliminated from policy-making posts in Germany and that labor unions and other pro-democratic forces there be strengthened. The Jewish groups affiliated with the Council are: American Jewish Committee, American Jewish Congress, Anti-Defamation League, Jewish Labor Committee, Jewish War Veterans, and Union of American Hebrew Congregations.
