Jewish-arab-catholic-druze Peace Delegation in Denmark to Discuss Mideast Conflict

An eight-member peace delegation consisting of three Jews, three Arabs, a Druze, and a Catholic nun arrived here Thursday to discuss the Mideast conflict with Scandinavian political leaders. On hand to meet the delegation were the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen and representatives of the Social-Democratic Party.

One of the Israeli delegation members, Kalmon Jaron of the Martin Buber Center in Jerusalem, quoted the group’s motto: “If we cannot achieve big things immediately, let us begin by the small.” An Arab member of the delegation, Musa Join, said that militant Palestinian organizations had not tried to interfere with the group’s activities. The group appeared on Danish television Thursday evening.

Abraham David Shlonsky, the Israeli poet who died May 18 in Tel Aviv at the age of 73, was honored last week in Brasilia by the Brazilian Cultural Foundation, a government sponsored body, Pereira Lira, president of Brasilia’s branch of the Academy of Literature, presided, The renowned Brazilian poet Valdemar Lopes, and Dr. Flavio Prates, head of the governor’s office in Brasilia, read some of Shlonsky’s poetry which had been translated from Hebrew into Portuguese by the late Brazilian poetess Cecilia Meirelles. Israeli Ambassador Yitahak Harkavi, and Israel Consul General Itiel Pann, introduced the works of Shlonsky.
