The usually friendly relations between Jews and Arabs in French North Africa was cited as proof that the presence of the two peoples in Palestine need not lead to violence, in testimony given by representatives of the Alliance Israelite Francaise to William Phillips, one of the members of the Anglo-American inquiry committee.
The Alliance spokesmen, Maurice Levin, vice-president of the organization, and Jules Braunshvig, urged that surviving Jews who do not wish to remain in Europe be enabled to emigrate to Palestine. Their transfer, they said, should be organized under the authority of the United Nations and the Jewish Agency, with responsibility being vested in the latter.
