Among the first contributors to the relief fund for the stricken earthquake victims of Japan were Kuhn, Loeb and Company, which subscribed $25,000 and J. & W. Seligman Co., which gave $5,000.
Among the Americans of whom nothing has been heard since the catastrophe are B.W. Fleisher, publisher of the Japan Advertiser and his family. The plant of the paper in Tokio was completely destroyed.
