The Jewish Brigade, which has been stationed on the Italo-Austrian frontier since the cessation of hostilities, is being transferred to Belgium and is expected to arrive on Wednesday, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today. The Brigade will be stationed at Tournai, near the French frontier. Palestinian companies of the Royal Army Service Corps and of the Royal Engineers will remain in Italy.
Capt. Leon Shalit, son of the late Mark Shalit, British Jewish industrialist, who has arrived here with an advance unit of the Brigade, expressed his outrage at the sight of thousands of Jews in “liberated” German and Austrian camps who are still confined like prisoners, treated like enemies, underfed and wearing their old prison (##), without being given any hope for the future.”
