“There were no better soldiers under my command during the North African campaign than members of the Jewish Brigade and Jewish members of other units,” Viscount Alexander, Governor-General of Canada, said at dedication ceremonies for a Jewish community services building.
During the ceremonies he unveiled a bust and a plaque commemorating Baron de Hirsch, noted philanthropist who made possible the Baron de Hirsch Institute housed the community services building. Among the speakers and guests at the dedication wire Cabinet ministers and Jewish community leaders.
