Forty-four of the sixty-two Assembly candidates nominated by the Republicans and Democrats were held today by the Citizens’ Union to be unworthy of the support of voters in Manhattan and the Bronx.
Assemblyman Steinberg, the only Republican member of the Rules Committee fromthis city in many years, was highly recommended by the Citizens’ Union.
“He is a legislator, of courage and wide experience, who has just completed his most useful year at Albany, and who unquestionably deserves re-election on his excellent record”.
On the Tammany side, Assemblyman Bloch received the highest measure of praise.
Eight Republican and eight Democratic nominees were indorsed in Manhattan and only one of each party in the Bronx. The indorsed Republicans include: Sol Ullman, 6th; Victor R. Kaufman, 7th, Joseph Steinberg, 15th. Among the Democrats Frank A. Carlin, 5th; Samuel I. Posenman, 11th, Maurice Block, 16th, and Joseph A. Cacagan, 22nd. In the Bronx the Republicans approved Samuel Bruckheimer, 8th.
