Another Jewish cemetery has been desecrated–this time in the city of Marczali–it is reported in UJ Elet, the organ of the Jewish community. The paper publishes an editorial demanding energetic action to apprehend and punish the persons responsible, pointing out similar incidents had occured in the same cemetery in 1941, and were a forerunner to the later widescale persecution of Jews.
President Zoltan Tildy, receiving a Jewish delegation which came to congratulate him on the eccasion of his 58th birthday, expressed his appreciation of the role that the country’s Jews have played in postwar reconstruction and reiterated his admiration for the courage with which the Jews had endured persecution by the fascists.
