Jewish chaplains with the U.S. forces in Europe are encountering difficulties covering the scattered areas in which they serve, Dr. David de Sola Pool, spiritual leader of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue here, stated yesterday upon his return from a four-week Army Department sponsored tour as a representative of the Jewish Welfare Board.
In Austria, Dr. Pool disclosed, one Jewish chaplain is required to cover the entire U.S. occupation zone, including Vienna, Salzburg and Linz. He stressed the importance of the J.W.B.’s continuing stream of supplies to the Continent, including literature, religious items and food.
