It is not generally known that New Orleans has one of the best Hebrew schools in this country. a school which begins with the child of the primer grade and ends with the Tulane or Newcomb student, which starts with the Hebrew primer and ends with pupils who converse, act plays, write essays and deliver addresses in Hebrew.
The Communal Hebrew School, has a curriculum extending over six years, which embraces Bible and Jewish history, Jewish ethics, Hebrew and Rabbinical literature, along with Hebrew grammar. rhetoric, composition and conversation. The hours of instruction are from 3:30 to 8:30 p. m. during week-days, with special hours on Sunday morning. There are evening courses for advanced pupils and prospective teachers.
Two hundred pupils attend the school. There are five teachers, of whom E. E. Lisitsky is superintendent.
