The Religious School of Congregation Emanu-El, New York, will reopen on Sunday, September 25th.
The School will meet at Temple Beth-El, Fifth Avenue at 76th Street. During the summer the school rooms of the Temple have been rebuilt, to provide room for all the pupils of the combined Schools.
The School contains classes for pupils of all ages, beginning with a Kindergarten Class. It offers to the children of Congregation Emanu-El instruction in religion and history. Special study courses are provided for young people.
Registration will be held September 21, 22 and 23.
The High Holiday services of the Free Synagogue will be held in the auditorium of Carnegie Hall, beginning Monday evening, September 26 at 8 o’clock, when Dr Stephen S. Wise will preach on “What Things Satisfy, A New Year’s Query!” On Tuesday morning, September 27, Dr. Wise’s theme will be “Israel’s Soul and The Jew’s Fate.”
In order to accomodate a great number of members who cannot be cared for in Carnegie Hall, what is known as the Overflow Service will be held again this year under the auspices of the Men’s Club, at the auditorium of the Synagogue House, West 68th Street, near Central Park. Dr. Sidney E. Goldstein of the Synagogue will preach on “The Relation of Religion and Life.”
The Sunday morning service will be resumed on October 9, when Dr. Wise will preach on the subject, “Henry Ford’s Retraction: Some Further Lessons.”
In October and November, the pulpit will be occupied by Aaron Sapiro, and Dr. Louis L. Mann of Chicago Sinai Congregation.
The Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue. Shearith Israel, at Seventieth Street and Central Park West, will hold overflow services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, which will be open to the public, without cards of admission.
These services are designed to provide facilities of worship for those whose circumstances do not permit them to take advantage of Synagogue accommodations elsewhere.
Special young people’s services for the High Holidays will be conducted at the Jacob H. Schiff Center, 2510 Valentine Avenue, the Bronx. These services have been arranged under the auspices of the Young Peoples League of the United Synagogue.
A section of seats for college students has been set aside by Temple Ansche Chesed, at its new quarters, 866 West End Avenue. Admission will be free. Tickets may be obtained by communicating directly with the organizations.
