Dr. Leo Baeck, president of the Reichs Representation of Jews in Germany, has issued a proclamation in connection with the new Jewish communities law, pointing out that all communities will continue to operate as hitherto and appealing to members to give them their full support.
The proclamation stresses that members are legally compelled to pay dues much as they had to pay the community tax levied under the old regulations, which last month were altered by the Government to reduce the Jewish communities to the status of private organizations, depriving them of the right to levy taxes. Final form of the communities, the proclamation points out, depends on supplementary regulations to be published by the authorities.
