That recreation, woven into the intellectual, religious and cultural program of the Jewish community centers throughout the country, would solve many of the problems which confront American Jewry today, was the opinion expressed at the opening session of the sixth annual conference of the National Association of Jewish Community Centers Secreaties, yesterday, by Herman Passamaneck of Kansas City, President of the organization.
The initial session was held at the Breakers Hotel and was presided over by former Mayor Harry Bacharach.
The recent immigration law passed by Congress was severely denounced by the President in his address. “It is the greatest tragedy in the history of our race as it implies that our fellow-Jews cannot become good law-abiding citizens and really takes a fling at ourselves,” he said.
A discussion was held on the training of volunteer leaders and the work of young women in the organizations. This discussion was led by Harry L. Gluckman, Prof. Julius Drachsler of the College of the City of New York, Samuel Leff of the Jewish Welfare Board and A. W. Rosenthal, Social and Educational Director of the Y.H.H.A. of New York City.
