A monument erected by the Jewish community of North Carolina, in conjunction with the Independent Order B’nai Brith, in honor of the late Zebulon B. Vance, former governor of North Carolina and United States Senator from 1879 to 1894, will be dedicated here on Sunday.
Zebulon Vance is honored for his part in championing the Jewish people and tribute to him is to be paid for his oration on “the scattered nation,” which is still acclaimed as “the greatest weapon against prejudice and bigotry toward the Jewish people ever forged in this country.”
The speakers at the dedication will include Governor McLean of North Carolina, Dr. Stephen S. Wise, whose subject will be “The Scattered Nation,” and Alfred M. Cohen, president of the Independent Order B’nai Brith.
The national B’nai Brith voted to join the local lodge toward defraying the cost of the Vance Memorial.
