The Jewish Community in Paris is growing and overflowing the capital, spreading to an increasing extent into the suburbs, it was reported at the general meeting of the Jewish Consistory Association of Paris, held here this week. Baron Robert de Rothschild was in the chair.
The Consistory proposes to devote more attention to the cultural needs of the Jews and to promote the religious instruction of the Jewish children. The new members of the Community are mainly foreign Jews settled in France, Dr. Eidlitz, the reporter on the subject, stated. They seemed to hold the view, he said, that to be real Frenchmen it was necessary to abandon every religious practice which might distinguish them from the rest of the population. He urged that the Consistory should fight against this attitude. Religious practice still remains, he said, the only real means of preserving intact the Jewish family unit and preventing the disappearance of Judaism through the dissolution of the Jews among their environment.
