The position of the Jewish community of Warsaw, the largest Jewish community in Europe, is extremely difficult, Deputy Farbstein, the President of the Executive of the Community, reported to the plenary meeting of the Communal Board which has just been held here. The newly-elected administration, he said, has a very hard task before it if it is to bring order into the affairs of the Community and raise it to the level which a community such as Warsaw ought to occupy.
The Community has a large deficit, salaries have long been unpaid to the employees of the community, teachers, etc. Whatever they thought of the previous administration of the Community, they had to admit that it had done a great deal in the matter of the systematic and organized work of the community. The new Presidium, he stated, has already made arrangements for imposing a supplementary tax for the aid of the suffering Jewish population of Warsaw.
