A demand that the United States Government aban###its proposal for a trusteeship for Palestine, was made here last night in a resolution ##### by the closing session of the four-day biennial convention of the American Jewish congress. Plans to hold a special session in Washington today to discuss the Palestine Crisis” before adjournment were cancelled at the last minute.
The 1,200 delegates also urged the V.S, to revert to its original decision ####port Palestine partition and extend recognition to the Jewish state which will ####oclaimed in Palestine May 16. The parley demanded the lifting of the State De-ant embargo on arms shipments to the Jews of Palestine, and expressed the defter-lion of American Jewry to support fully the Jewish community of Palestine in its Le for independence.In another resolution the conference called for immigration legislation base ###he original Stratton Bill, which called for the admission of 400,000 DP’s of all ###hs within four years. It condemned the Wiley-Revercomb Bill, which would admit ####000 refugees in two years and under severe restrictions, as inadequate.
Expressing grave concern over the precarious position of the 800,000 Jews ###ng in Moslem and Arab lands, the delegates urged the American Government to aup### the request for international action made by the World Jewish Congress in its ##randa to the Economic and Social Council of the United nations to protect the ### and rights of Jews in Moslem and Arab lands.
Several resolutions called for legislation and public action to deal with ### the convention termed “the increasing challenge to civil liberties in America.” ###ific measures approved by the delegates included the passage of Federal fair employment practices legislation, anti-lynching and anti-poll tax laws, the abolition ##he House Committee on Un-American Activities and state action against bias in ###tion and housing.
In a special resolution the convention called on the American Government to ###ciee its fullest power In strengthening the United nations as “the bulwark of ##d peace” and for a meeting of the leaders of the Soviet Union and the U.S. in ## to avert war.
