A proposal was made in Congress today for the United States to admit 25,000 Palestinian Arab refugees to encourage other nations to join in the worldwide resettlement of the refugees.
Rep. Leonard Farbstein, New York Democrat, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, called on President Johnson to take the first step to ease tensions caused by the refugee situation. The Congressman said that such a gesture could ignite a chain reaction in which even Communist nations might join in admitting Arabs. “The Arab states would then be able to do no less for their brethren.”
